February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month and today, I am wearing orange to help raise awareness on the importance of educating our youth about healthy boundaries, self care, and what defines a healthy and not so healthy relationship. Teen Dating Violence has significant and long lasting implications on health, opportunity, and wellbeing and early preventative education is key in helping our youth identify what is appropriate and healthy behavior, and what is a red flag.
According to the CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 1 in 12 teens have experienced physical dating violence and 1 and 12 have experienced sexual dating violence. Similarly though not always correlated, a significant percentage of teens who have experienced relationship violence have either been victims to trafficking or vulnerable to be victimized.
Education is always our first line of defense and this month, organizations and schools across America are committed to raising awareness through education! Join me on National Wear Orange Day to raise awareness towards teen dating violence and share the message that #loveisrespect 🧡
February 2 is National Wear Red Day❣️the @missamerica and @missamericasscholarship is currently in collaboration with @american_heart and @goredforwomen to lead an initiative of championing women’s health and well being at every age ♥️ Taking charge of your health and making a lasting impact on the health and well-being of our communities is a goal we must all strive for!
